The public will have another opportunity to tour the James De Young (JDY) power plant site on Saturday, November 3 as part of the Waterfront Holland initiative. The event offers three time slots for the tours at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. which are RSVP only.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tours are the third Waterfront Holland event held by the city and HBPW, following an open house style event on October 20 and the first tour event this past weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing the success of the first round of tours, we are excited to hold a second round to allow additional members of the public to view the JDY site,\u201d said Mark Vanderploeg, community and neighborhood services director for the city of Holland. \u201cWe feel like this event gives the public the firsthand view needed to better envision the future of their waterfront.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While the tours are open to the public, HBPW officials are reminding attendees that the JDY power plant is a retired power generation station and is not designed for public access. Attendees will be required to stay with their guides to ensure safety. The location is not highly accessible and the tours are not recommended for people with mobility challenges or who cannot climb stairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

For those unable to attend the tours, videos looking at the interior and exterior of the site are now available on the Waterfront Holland website.
