The next public event for Waterfront Holland kicks off Saturday, October 27 with a free tour of the James De Young (JDY) power plant site. The event offers three time slots for the tours at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. which are RSVP only.

The event is the second Waterfront Holland event held by the city and HBPW, following an open house style event on October 20. There is a second JDY tour event on Saturday, November 3 with tours at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. That event is also RSVP only.

“The goal of Waterfront Holland is for the city and HBPW to be inclusive and transparent about gathering public input to form a vision for what’s next,” said Mark Vanderploeg, community and neighborhood services director for the city of Holland. “These tours accomplish that by giving the community an opportunity to see the site firsthand so they can better envision the future of their waterfront.”

While the tours are open to the public, HBPW officials are reminding attendees that the JDY power plant is a retired power generation station and is not designed for public access. Attendees will be required to stay with their guides to ensure safety. The location is not highly accessible and the tours are not recommended for people with mobility challenges.
